“Tubbies are for babies”

Charlie is in the middle of all kinds of changes, he’s potty trained (mostly), he’s moving from the toddler room to the preschool room at daycare, and for a while now, he has been taking showers because he will have you know that taking a tubby is a baby thing.Ā  He’s 2 1/2 and totally grown up.Ā  Ha.Ā  Of course, there are a lot of times he sees Nate playing in the tub and then he decides to go in there too…

So he likes to go into our shower and have a good soak, with Calvin waiting patiently right outside the shower for his boy to be done (resting his head on Charlie’s grubby old running shoes).

Night light

Since the weather is garbage and it gets dark so early, I have been trying to work with what I have and shoot more inside at night in artificial light (or sometimes early in the morning when I’m up with Nate).Ā Ā Because I don’t use my flash very often, this kind of light can be really awful looking, but I’ve recently been experimenting with KelvinĀ white balance…ah, yes, this does appeal to the scientist that I am.Ā  It basically adjusts for the temperature of the light – making colors more true to what my eyes are seeing.Ā  I’m a big fan so far.Ā  My Rebel didn’t have the ability to do Kelvin and my 60D does, just another reason I love my new camera šŸ™‚Ā  These are ofĀ Nate Nate at night a couple nights ago, after his tubby (and in his standard fussy mood).Ā  I’m trying to catch as many thunder thigh shots as I can before they melt away…

  • Lauren - Oh my gosh! That face! Those chubby thighs! (only cute on a baby, I know!) I’ve been really curious about trying Kelvin, but with having to learn the ins and outs of a new camera, I haven’t added it to the list. You’re encouraging me to move up my timeline!ReplyCancel

The way I view {beginnings}

For the first installment of my ā€œThe way I viewā€¦ā€ 12-month project, the first thing that came to mind thinking of the word ā€œbeginningsā€ was that eachĀ day begins veryĀ early for me these days.Ā  Nate is quite the early riser.Ā  He never did sleep well as an infant, but even now at around 17 months old, we are up way before dawn, usually just after 5 a.m.Ā  So there you have it, the way I view beginnings…my early mornings with Nate.

These are from a few weeks ago, and itĀ was my first attempt at shooting in really low light/with backlighting and playing with silhouettes.Ā  These are typical Nate, just noodling around and occasionally checking himself out in the mirror in my room, and eventually trying to escape once he gets bored.Ā  We just hang out together in the morning waiting for the sunrise…and for everyone else to wake up.Ā  His big bum andĀ belly always crack me up.Ā  If you had asked me even 5 years ago if I’d ever be up this early so consistently, ever, I would have laughed so hard.Ā  Thanks to my little redhead I am now a morning person.Ā  I do more by 9 a.m. now than I used to do in an entire day, and you’d be surprised what’s open at 6 a.m. (I know them all…).Ā  Also, haven’t used an alarm clock in a long time.Ā  Nor have I been late to work.Ā  I’ve seen the sunrise moreĀ in the past year or so than I think I have in my lifetime.Ā  I was up a good 20 minutes before the royal wedding so we didn’t miss a thing.Ā  Thanks, Natie.
