one|january

One of the very best and totally unexpected perks of my tireless pursuit of all things photography related has been that I have made some extremely talented, inspiring, and best of all – really fun and supportive friends along the way.  All of us share a huge passion for photography, each having a distinct style that we have watched evolve together over the last year or so.  It’s really been fun to see how each person captures their world in their own unique way.  A few of us decided to start a blog circle project together this year, “One”.  We will each post just one picture at the end of each month, just one of our personal favorites, and then link to the next photographer. This circle of friends is very special to me, we are scattered across the country, from Washington state to Colorado, down to Texas, across to NYC, to Georgia, and of course there’s little old me right in the middle – representing the Midwest in my sweet home Chicago.

I just love photographing dogs.  A goal of mine for 2013 is to do it much more.  And this time?  I got to shoot a puppy!  Gah!  Nothing better.  I recently had the pleasure of shooting my friend Jeanette’s newest addition, little miss Millie the Australian Shepherd.  Of course, I am partial to Aussies, I own one and have owned them in the past.  Or I guess I should say they have owned me? They are irresistible as puppies, just giant fuzzballs with no tail.  When an Aussie wags its “tail”, it wiggles its entire hind end.  Millie is all giant paws and fluff and energy and everything a puppy should be. And of course, she has the killer “puppy dog eyes”.  How could you say no to this face?

Please continue to follow the circle to Bainbridge Island, Washington and visit my talented friend Krista’s favorite shot of the month here!  With her eye for dramatic light, I’m sure it’ll be great!

  • The One: January » Kimberly Lane Photography - […] A special group of friends and I will be posting an image each month with the theme of “One”.  Maybe it’s one image that signifies the month, or one that we would have otherwise overlooked.  I chose this image for my One in January because almost deleted it when I scanned them and began critiquing the technical aspects.  Then I stopped and evaluated the emotion and connection.  Now this One means everything to me.
