Wow I can’t believe we are already on month four of our “one” blog circle project! You can read about the origins of this project here. This month I finally started to pick up my camera much more again.  I had been in a bit of an uninspired rut for quite a while. But a cold, gray, long winter will do that to you. Our trip to Florida got me back in the groove and I shot a lot of frames (and some on film-more on that later!) and had a lot of fun watching my boys enjoying themselves and running free.

As usual, it was hard to pick just one. My images are often pretty playful and lighthearted. After all, I’m usually shooting kids and dogs, and they are both the personification of uninhibited fun. This month turned out to be a hard one…one senseless tragedy after another. I hate that I have to be mindful to not have the news on – pretty much all of the time – so that I don’t scare or confuse my boys. It makes me worry about the world they are going to inherit. I’m sure I’m not alone there. So this month, I wanted to choose a happy, peaceful image. Something pure and sweet and calm. Charlie made great strides in the pool this year on vacation. He went from sticking around the stairs and clutching the railing at all times to going underwater diving for toys in just six days. It was a newfound freedom he loved and you could just feel his happiness when he got in the water.

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…

Please continue the circle and follow me down to Georgia to see what my talented and thoughtful friend Kim is up to this month. Kim tells great stories through her images – using both film and digital.

  • Krista - Jess, I appreciate this so much, especially knowing the story. I used to listen to the radio in the car, but lately there is just too much chance of scary confusion when the news pops in. I want to dig a moat around our house (I did move to an island, now that I think about it), and keep all the innocence a bit longer. This shot captures that feeling perfectly. Joyful!ReplyCancel

  • Mama Z - This has Jess written all over it!!! Perfection, pure and simple.ReplyCancel
